28th Birthday

Another year older, another year wiser. Isn't that how the saying goes? I'm not sure that I am that much wiser but I am excited to see what 28 brings. The perks of a summer birthday and working in education is that I have never had to work on my birthday. I am looking forward to spending the day on the boat and soaking up the last days of vacation.

When it comes to birthday gifts I struggled this year to come up with ideas. At the top of my list is a new Elsa top from Lilly Pulitzer. I am thinking that the Garmin Vivofit Bangle may be a little gift for myself since I wear my Garmin Vivofit2 daily.

Hope you all have a wonderful Thursday! Stop by tomorrow for highlights and tips from our Topsail Beach vacation.

New Hair Care Routine: Dessange Pairs

Today I am popping in to share quite a different type of post for me- hair product review. Honestly, I am not even close to being a beauty blogger. Especially since I have been rocking the wash and go hairstyle this week. When I was sent samples of Dessange Paris's new line from Target I knew I had to break out of my typical post and share a review. I apologize in advanced for the selfies.

Capturing one of the few days I have styled my hair this week. Let's be honest Spring Break is only a few days away.

I was sent Shampoo, Conditioner and Treatment from Dessange Paris's new California Blonde line. The products were formulated to be gentle on color-treated hair like mine. The first thing I noted was the smell of the products- which I loved. It has hints of musk which keep the floral smell from being too overwhelming. It is quite a unique smell due to the musk and it is hard to describe. I recommend picking up a bottle and smelling it yourself  before purchasing because I know the scent it not for everyone. Also, this is one of the first shampoos I have ever used that I can still smell after washing and blow drying.

After trying it for several weeks now I have noticed that my hair has more shine and less frizz than with my other shampoos. It is also incredibly soft even with product in. Unfortunately, the trade off was it weighed down my hair and I lost a lot of volume. I would be interested in trying a volumizing  shampoo from their line to see how that worked for my hair.
Check out that shine!

Overall, I would recommend this shampoo for natural or enhanced (like me) blondes that are looking to increase shine and softness.

What's your favorite shampoo brand?

I used to be a L'Oreal professional fan for years until my local Target stopped carrying it. Since then I have been rotating between several different brands.

January Stitch Fix

After several misses with Stitch Fix over the past year I took a break from the subscription. This month they drew me back in with a store credit that covered the price of the styling so I figured it wouldn't hurt to give them a second chance. Overall, I liked this box a lot more than the ones in the past.  The overall style of this box reflected my style pretty well.  I also really enjoy the style cards and the personal note from the stylist.

Tart Noriega Boat Neck Knit Top- Small {$58}
I knew I would love this top the minute I pulled it out of the box. Navy and stripes are my jam. The fabric is so soft and lays very flattering. Verdict- Keep

Mavi Hiedi Skinny Jean- 4 {$98}

When I first pulled these out of the box I was sure they would not fit. The waist band looks like it would barely fit around my leg. I figured I should at least give them a chance and I am glad I did! Thanks to the extreme stretch of the fabric they were actually flattering and very comfortable. Almost like wearing pajama jeans! I love a deep rinse on jeans as well. The price was a bit high but I loved them enough to keep them. Verdict- Keep

Dee Elle Talbot Split Neck Top- Small {$54}
My stylist noted that she saw on my Pinterest board I had a few checkered tops. So I appreciated the thought but this top is not my style at all. The neck of the top was cut way too low. Also, the top was poorly made for the price. Verdict- Return

Eight Sixty Ella V-Neck Abstract Print Dress- Small {$58}
The overall theme of this box was blue. I had asked for dresses this box which are aways a  hot or miss. First, I did not like the print of this dress. Abstract prints are just not my thing. Second, the cut is awful for my body shape. The low drop waist is very unflattering on my hips. Third, the fit was way off the dress was too big in the top and way too small in the hips. Verdict- Return

Jill Michael Gracie Stone & Bead Nugget Bar Necklace {$42}
I thought the necklace was really cute. But the price was way too high for the necklace. After a quick google search I realized you can find similar styles for $20 or less. Verdict- Return

These are the styling cards and note I was speaking about. I loved the tips with the top and skinny jean. You can tell they are featuring a lot of deep reds since marsala is the color of the year. Honestly, not my color but I appreciate them trying to make in "in-trend."

Five Minute Fresh Face

One thing that I pride myself in is the ability to get ready quickly. Well, I can get ready quickly when I want to. :) Sometimes it is fun to take a few extra minutes to play with different makeup techniques or put a few extra minutes to put extra curl into hair. For day-to day beauty, I have my makeup routine narrowed down to a tee. My favorite look currently is a natural, barely there fresh face.  Recently I have watched several makeup tutorials and was amazed when they involved over 10 products and countless steps to achieve a "natural look." What is natural about taking 30 minutes to put on makeup before going out the door? That inspired me to share my favorites with you. I love that my routine takes less than 5 minutes and only involve 6 products.

Step One. Apply makeup primer. I love the Present Primer by Philosophy. I have been religiously using it since college. The scent is fresh and clean. It keeps my face matte and oil free all day.

Step Two. Apply foundation over primer. I keep it simple and use my fingers. Please tell me I am not alone in this. Beauty sponges sound like a good idea but I never remember to pick one up when I am at Sephora.

Step Three. Dab benetint onto lips and cheeks. I apply the stain to my lips first to allow the color to set. You can apply multiple layers on your lips or cheeks the color to build up the richness of your color.

Step Four. Brush mascara over upper and lower lashes. Apply a thin coat of brow gel onto eyebrows. Benefit's Gimme Brow provides fullness and definition to my light brows.

Step Five. Last step is to swipe on Revlon Lip butter in Peach Parfait before heading out the door. This lipstick is my favorite on the market. I love the smoothness as it goes on and it lasts pretty well throughout the day. The color is a barely there peach on my lips.

That's it! My five steps to a fresh face. Hope you all have a great afternoon loves.

Sharing the Sale

Over the past 2-3 years, I am finding I have extreme brand loyalty. When I find a brand of clothing that fits me well, I will continue to shop there until they change the fit or quality.  The same goes for make-up and skincare products. My favorite skincare line is Philosophy. I have been using their cleanser and moisturizer for almost 10 years now. How's that for brand loyalty? If you haven't tried their amazing skincare line or are an avid admirer like myself, I wanted to share a great sale! QVC is featuring Philosophy this week and you can check out all the sales online {here}.  Check out some of my favorites from the sale.

Purify and refresh your beautiful skin duo- $40 {here}
The Purity face wash is perfect to use at night to get off tough mascara and eye makeup. I love the Take a Deep Breath Moisturizer because is it oil free and feels so lightweight on your skin especially in the summer humidity.

Ultimate peel party collection- $60 {here}
This kit contains two microdelivery peel pads, two microdelivery vitamin c peel packets and one oxygen peel to use with catalase enzyme capsules and oxygen foam. This kit includes everything you need to indulge in a spa peel in the comfort of your home. This kit sells for over $70 at Sephora.

2-step vitamin C microdelivery peptide peel- $70 {here}
This kit targets sun-damaged skin to help gently resurface, remove dead and dry skin cells and rejuvenate dull complexions. I just started using the peel pads and have noticed a huge difference in my skin even in  small amount of time I have been using them.

Cleanse peel and treat skin care trio $96 {here}
These three are my go to for simple skincare routine. Purity made simple cleanser has been my favorite since college. The light scent is refreshing and it deep cleans without being too harsh. I use the microdelivery peel once to twice a week. After I turned 25, I started to notice that my skin did not bounce back as well as it did in my early 20's. Hope is not enough facial firming serum really tightens and refreshes my skin.

Are you a brand loyalist or do you mix and match brands? What's your favorite skin care product?

All American Dress

With the 4th of July right around the corner, I am feeling very patriotic. I jump at any chance to purchase a new dress or outfit and build my wardrobe. Sometimes my wallet does not always agree with me though! While pursing the dresses at Target recently I stumbled across this gorgeous seersucker dress. I knew it would be perfect for the 4th and knew I had seen it somewhere before. Then I realized it was very similar to a Lilly Dress I fell in love with last year.

I adore both dresses but can't compete with the price of the Target dress. This is the perfect dress for spring and summer. The empire waist gives a slimming effect and the ruffles are a nice touch, not over done. I love Seersucker print I believe it really transcends trends. It is perfect for summer cookouts or of course watching the fireworks on the 4th!

Full Disclosure: This post was inspired by Credit Card Insider as I was contacted to participate in their "Splurge vs. Save" Campaign. I was not paid to participate. All thoughts and reviews are my own.

Wardrobe Revamp: Tortoise Print

Ever since I was a little girl I have loved the brown pattern of tortoise print. In my efforts to add classic pieces to my wardrobe I have stumbled upon some amazing accessories.  Here are some great pieces I have my eye on. My favorite is the navy and tortoise necklace.

Building my Wardrobe: Wardrobe Revamp

One thing that I have been envious of is a simple classic wardrobe. Over the past year, I have been trying to invest in classic pieces that will transcend trends and wear well with age. I have noticed that the items I continually grab from my closet are not the cute trendy tops but the simple t-shirts and sweaters. Even with this realization, building a classic wardrobe is hard for me as I love the look of trendy items. Peplum, Neon & Chevron= Love. However, I have never worn items with these trends.

This year I am trying to plan ahead with what I want to buy this spring. I am hoping to purchase simple bold pieces that I will still love years for now.

Mix & Match Wardrobe

Mix & Match Wardrobe by sweetcarolinabelle

I hope to build a wardrobe with many neutral pieces that can be mixed and matched easily. Also, a pop of color could be added with a scarf or a bold piece of jewelry. My go to stores when looking for staple items are Ann Taylor Loft. CWonder & JCrew. Being 5'2 I tend to shop at places that have petites or offer tailoring. I have never purchased a pair of white denim or a jean jacket. Both items are high on my wish list for the spring. Also, I would love a pair of comfy loafers for work and travel.

What items do you recommend in a classic wardrobe?

These are a Few of my Favorite Things : Stocking Stuffers

Favorite Things- Stocking Stuffers

1.  Stainless Steel Hammered Tumbler Rose Gold - This cup is adorable and it keeps the coffee warm through my long commute  to work. I love making my own Starbucks copycat drinks at home.
2. C. Wonder knot earrings- The C.Wonder store just opened up in Southpoint and I am obsessed. These beauties would look great with all the holiday outfits.

3. Fresh lip treatment - I have started hoarding lipbalm lately. The cold weather has really taken a toll on my lips and skin. This lip balm has gotten amazing reviews by lots of bloggers lately.
4. Emi-Jay Hair-ties- I love these hair ties. I have them stored in my purse, gym bag and desk. They are great for when I just want to throw my hair up quick. You don't have to worry about your hair snagging or having creases.
5. Philosophy gift sets kit- This is my favorite scent of the Philosophy brand. The body wash smells amazing and will not dry your skin out.
6. Brush Kit- These brushes are great quality and for a great price! I love that it comes with it's own carrying case.
7. J.Crew socks- I am always cold especially at work. So I have been collecting cute socks to keep me warm. You can never go wrong with JCrew.

Weekend Wants: Scent Favorites

I have been itching to expand my perfume collection.
Looking back over the years I have noticed my fragrance preferences have evolved and changed drastically. I remember my first "real" perfume being A&F by Abercrombie. Then I graduated to Ralph by Ralph Lauren which I thought was so trendy and beach inspired. On one of our first cruises I found Chance by Channel  which I loved and used throughout college. I currently am wearing Amazing Grace by
Philosophy. As you know by this post I am obsessed with all things Philosophy. I enjoy the smell of the perfume but I am not in love with it anymore. Below are some new fragrances I have been loving the smell of. I have noticed I tend to gravitate toward scents that are clean with floral notes.

What is your favorite scent?

Weekend Wants: Totes Love

I am going to be honest. I have an obsession with totes. I typically invest in a good tote and carry it until the straps start to wear away. My poor JPK bag has seen better days. I love having room in my for anything I may need to carry. Things I find myself needing from my purse normally include mascara, water, lip gloss, lotion and/or several pieces of fruit. It is also great for an occasional mini bottle of wine or two :) I have been rocking a cross body bag for the past few months which I love but I am truly missing the extra space for my wine. I have been on the prowl for a good tote and have narrowed it down to these three lovelies.

As you can see, I am a neutral girl at heart! I would love to hear from you all..
What is the favorite purse you own and why?
Any additional recommendations for good sturdy purses?

Best Wishes.

Ashley

Five on Friday

Well hello Friday! I am oh so excited to see you again! This Friday I am linking up again to share five things that have been on my mind this week.
Even though it is 90+ degrees outside and will continue to be for most of August I can't help but start planning my fall wardrobe. Here are the five things that I am already swooning over for fall.

1. Leather Tote- I have been searching for the perfect camel colored leather tote since last fall. There are some amazing options at Tory Burch, Rebecca Minkoff and C Wonder. I just need to make up my mind.

2. Bright Jacket- I have an amazing black peacoat that I wear constantly when it gets cold. I would love to have a classic colorful option as well.

3. Chambray Shirt- After multiple seasons of seeing this shirt stay a staple I thin it is time for me to invest in a chambray shirt. I cant believe I have waited so long to jump on this fashion staple.

4. Printed Flats- Walking on concrete and tile floors at work I am so rough on flats. I have a basic pair of nude and black flats. However, I want to add some print into the mix too.

5. Jcrew Vest- This another item that I have been lusting after since last fall. The herringbone pattern was my favorite print from last year. Unfortunately, I tried to wait on a sale and by then it was sold out. This year I will be using my teacher discount and scooping this up early.

Have you started a fall wish list? If so, what is on it?

Happy Friday y'all!!

Five on Friday

For five on Friday today, I'm sharing my five favorite finds this week from the world of Pinterest!

1. Peanut Butter Meringue Pie- I have a not so secret love for dessert toppings. I believe they are the best part of almost any dessert. Crumble toppings on cobblers, icing on cakes and meringue on pies. This dessert combines my favorite topping meringue with one of my greatest indulgences peanut butter. This recipe is going to be tried very soon!
2. Simple Juice Recipes-  On a healthier note...(hey, it's all about balance) ever since I received my juicer I have been searching for simple ingredient recipes to try. These recipes all look delicious and include ingredients I usually have in my fridge. Win, Win! My favorite is the morning energizer.

3. Honey Sesame Chicken Wraps- Crock Pot recipes are quickly becoming one of my favorite cooking methods this summer. I love being able to fix it and forget it. These honey sesame chickens wrap pack a lot of flavor while still being quick and healthy which keep both me and my husband happy!

{via}

4. Easy Updo-  I am guilty of throwing by hair in a bun and running out the door on more days that I like to admit. This bun is a cute alternative to the regular bun when I am having a bad hair day.

5. 12 Things Successful People Do Differently-  These really spoke to me this week. Especially as I am always wanting to make sure things are perfect and have a tendency to make large general goals.  I especially like making measurable goals and tracking their progress. That's the data driven part of me :)

What are some of your favorite Pinterest finds this week?

Hope you all have a wonderful Friday!

Best Wishes,

Ashley
